Graduate Admissions Transcripts and Entrance Exams

Official transcript or transcript evaluation documenting your completed or in-progress bachelor's degree are required. Transcripts or transcript evaluation showing any graduate courses taken or degrees held are required as well.

An official transcript is one that is sent directly from the institution attended either electronically or via standard mail.

If you earned your degree.

We recommend that you have your previous transcripts sent electronically, when possible. Electronic transcripts can be sent directly from your previous institution to gradadmissions@salemstate.edu.

If you are unable to send an electronic transcript, transcripts can be mailed to the address below. Please allow 4-6 weeks for processing.

Entrance Exams

Testing Requirement Waiver

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, GRE, GMAT and MTEL testing has temporarily been waived from the application requirements for a number of our graduate programs through spring 2026.

GMAT (Graduate Management Admissions Test)

The master of business administration and master of science in accounting programs accept the GMAT in addition to the GRE. Please visit our Bertolon MBA admissions page to learn more about testing requirements and exemptions.

GRE (Graduate Record Exam)

The GRE is not required for all programs; please check your program-specific application requirements. The GRE is a computer-based test that measures verbal, quantitative, and analytical reasoning skills and is administered at test centers throughout the United States.

MAT (Miller Analogies Test)

The MAT is not required for all programs; please check your program-specific application requirements. The MAT is offered in verbal or computer-based formats, consisting of 120 questions in 60 minutes.

MTEL (Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure)

Most of our education preparation programs will require the MTEL. Most require passing scores on the Communication and Literacy Exam, with BOTH the reading and writing subtests. Some programs require a passing score on the related subject area test as well.

Please refer to your program specific requirements for specifics on which exam(s) you may need.

Salem State can only accept official scores directly from the evaluation system.

When you take the exam, you can list Salem State as a recipient school so we can receive the scores electronically.

If you have already taken the exam, you can send scores using the reprint request form. Sealed scores can then be sent to the address below. Please allow 4-6 weeks for processing.
